Challenge

As a concrete subcontractor to Skanska, CSI was tasked with constructing a multi-lane divided concrete highway in a very busy area of Otay, California near the US-Mexico border and an international border crossing.

Coffman Specialties paved the entire 2½ mile stretch in one pass, pouring 25,000 cubic meters of PCC Pavement 38 feet wide and 11-inches thick, using dowel baskets. Coffman had a 300 cubic meter per hour batch plant set up onsite to accommodate the fast-paced project.

The entire project was a combined total of 3 weeks worth of paving done in multiple stages utilizing one paving crew and one plant crew.
